The First Finished Rooms

I finally have some house pictures for you. I was waiting till a few rooms were completely finished (for now). The garage is also cleaned out and organized, but I didn't take any pictures of that.

Dining room: after
(You have already seen some of these but the finishing touches have been applied now. Honey and I recovered the chairs and finished putting up the moldings under the chair rail last week.)

The walls look baby blue in the photos because of the flash. It is a much more sophisticated blue in real life. :) Actually, all my downstairs rooms and several of the upstairs ones are different shades of blue and I LOVE IT. We used light to dark shades on the same paint sample card and it turned out beautifully. Blue is actually a pretty neutral color and I am able to use lots of different accent colors.

The artwork was my great-grandmother's. I've always loved it so Honey passed it on to me. I think she is reading Persuasion. Poppa thinks she is reading a James Bond novel.

All furniture purchased on Craigslist at fantastic prices!

Aunt Tessie made the fall centerpiece, she's so creative.

This chair is on loan from Honey and Poppa. I found the rug on Overstock.com (love that site).

The closets in our old house are tiny, so we maximized the closet space for the Gent and bought this wardrobe (Craigslist, of course!) for me. The coat rack for my purses is from an antique shop. I stole the idea from Emily - thanks!

Our room is long and narrow, so it was a bit tricky arranging the furniture. But I think the layout works pretty well. There's no room for bedside tables, so we hung shelves instead. At least it is a place to put your water glass, book, and cell phone. I thought about installing wall sconces but now I'm thinking no on that? Bedding is from Target. We plan to install crown molding someday, but other than that this room is complete.

This dresser was also my great-grandmother's and was in my room when I was growing up.

The Gent's dresser - $140 on Craigslist. With the money we saved on the dresser we bought a new tv (bye, bye tube).

"Master" bathroom: before
(It is a little half bath that is tucked into the space between the master bedroom and the nursery.)

"Master" bathroom: after
New vanity, mirror, light, and towel ring. Much, much, much better.

This is at the top of the stairs (Craigslist - $100!) and holds the rest of my clothes.

Aunt Tessie's room: before (the walls were so yellow they glowed)

Aunt Tessie's room: after
This will be Annie's someday, hence the pale pink walls. :)

Love the light fixture. Not sure if it is original or not, but pretty nonetheless!

The shower leaked because it was not installed correctly, so we had to have all the tile jack-hammered off the floor and redone. Big project, thankful for Eddie the tile guy.

More pictures as I get rooms completed. Still working on the nursery, play room, guest room, hall bathroom, entry way, office, kitchen, dining room, sunroom, basement, and basement closet. Most of the rooms just have one or two little projects left - throw pillows to make, furniture to paint, shims to saw, etc. I'll keep you posted as I make progress! A special thanks to Honey for all her help!
